Springbank 17 Sherry (OB, 2015, 52,3%)
Naso: sherry ovviamente, ma non nasconde le caratteristiche di Springbank. C’è un bel farmy, contadino ed agricolo, una leggera affumicatura poi parte la frutta: frutta rossa, ovviamente, quindi fragole ed amarene, ma anche frutta gialla, banana e mela, quasi pera. Leggermente mentolato, molto fresco comunque. Dopo un po’ cappuccino e cacao zuccherato, quasi latte. Tabacco da pipa e sigari. Si scalda con il tempo ed arriva alla mela al forno.
Gusto: una leggera speziatura, di pepe bianco e paprika, poi tante ciliegie sotto spirito, amarene, frutta secca e frutta rossa in abbondanza. L’alcol scalda a dovere il cuore di questo whisky. Rimane dolce a lungo, quasi zuccherino. Anche qui sensazioni di tabacco e di sigari. Cacao e cioccolato amaro.
Finale: cacao, cioccolato amaro, ciliegie sotto spirito, legno dolce e spezie.
Commento: un buon prodotto che non fa gridare al miracolo ma che regala sensazioni nette e precise. Niente di più, anzi sì, buon prezzo anche se scarsa reperibilità. Buona la gradazione alcolica.

Springbank 21 (OB, 1985, 46%) Archibald Mitchell
Naso: qui siamo in territori sherried ben più spinti. L’invecchiamento si sente, molto maggiore, cosicchè abbiamo un malto di altri tempi per le mani. Frutta rossa, ciliegie ed amarene, poi liquore alla frutta, arancia candita e frutta secca. Ricorda qualche Glendronach e Karuizawa di questi ultimi tempi. L’alcol tiene botta nonostante i tanti anni in bottiglia e si fa sentire, dona corpo e spessore. Rimane comunque amarognolo, non smaccatamente dolce. Caffè e cacao amaro.
Gusto: qui abbiamo un bel senso di chiuso, come riportato dai Facili nella loro recensione. Rimangono le sensazioni sherried del naso, quindi frutta rossa, ciliegia ed amarena sotto spirito, per concludere con frutta secca e legno. Il legno è dolce ed accompagnato da diverse spezie. Un palato comunque clamoroso al di là delle mie poche parole, dove le sensazioni da me descritte sono solo una parte di ciò che comporta questo whisky.
Finale: lungo e complesso, ciliegie sotto spirito, cacao, legno e spezie.
Commento: la metto giù facile, perchè non me la sento di fare altrimenti: questo whisky è buonissimo e vi auguro di provarlo, anche solo per capire cos’è l’invecchiamento in sherry. Questo è l’ABC.

Springbank 17 Sherry (OB, 2015, 52,3%)
Nose: sherry of course, but it does not hide the features of Springbank. There is a nice farmy, farmer and agricultural, lightly smoked and the fruits: red fruit, of course, then strawberries and cherries, but also yellow fruits, banana and apple, almost pear. Slightly minty, very cool anyway. After a while ‘cappuccino and sweetened cocoa, milk almost. Pipe tobacco and cigars. It is heated with time and reaches the baked apple.
Mouth: slightly spicy, white pepper and paprika, then a lot of cherry liqueur, black cherries, dried fruit and red fruit in abundance. Alcohol warms properly the heart of this whisky. It remains fresh for a long time, almost sweet. Also here sensations of tobacco and cigars. Cocoa and dark chocolate.
Finish: cocoa, dark chocolate, cherry liqueur, sweet wood and spices.
Overall: a good product that is not a miracle but that gives feelings clear and precise. Nothing more, yes indeed, good price though scarce availability. Good alcohol content.

Nose: here we are in territories sherried much “pushed”. You can feel the age, much greater, so we have a malt of other times into hands. Red fruit, cherries and sour cherries, then fruit liqueur, orange peel and dried fruit. it remembers some Glendronach and Karuizawa of recent times. Alcohol takes hit despite the many years in the bottle and is felt, gives body and thickness. It remains bitter, not overtly sweet. Coffee and cocoa.
Mouth: here we have a nice sense of closed, as reported by Facilis in their review. Sherried remain in the nose, and red fruit, cherry and black cherry liqueur, finishing with dried fruit and wood. The wood is soft and served with different spices. A palate still resounding beyond my few words, where the feelings I have described are only a part of what is involved in this whiskey.
Finish: long, complex, cherry liqueur, cocoa, wood and spices.
Overall: I put it down easy, because I do not feel to do otherwise: this whiskey is very good and I hope you will try it, if only to understand what aging in sherry. This is the ABC.
